About Me

Hi, I’m Jaci! I’m a copyeditor and proofreader who loves working with fantastical stories and diverse perspectives.

I have loved writing and stories my entire life. Along with my bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Hartford, I also studied an English minor, so I had an excuse to take creative writing classes! I’ve also taken a writing course from the Mark Twain House in Hartford, Connecticut, so I know the ins and outs of creative writing.

In 2023, I received my copyediting certificate from UCSD Extended Studies so I could confidently begin my journey into freelance editing. Since then I have copyedited and proofread for multiple self-published authors and publishers. I have worked on manuscripts in a variety of genres, including fantasy, science fiction, contemporary fiction, LGBTQ+ fiction and nonfiction, and science-related articles for observatory.wiki. I am also a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association.

While I appreciate all types and genres of writing, I have a special passion for speculative fiction; I love vivid fantasy, thoughtful sci-fi, chilling horror, and any story that bends our understand of reality.

When it comes to editing, I feel strongly that writing is an art, and while there are “rules” to follow, I love seeing writers bend and break the rules to satisfying and poignant ends. Knowing grammar and punctuation is only part of my job; as an editor, I also strive to understand your story and style and help make it shine. I want your story to be the best it can be, and I'm here to help make that happen!

If that sounds good to you, get in touch. I’d love to work with you!
